Where did you grow up ? ／出身はどこですか？
I grew up in Shizouka at the foot of Mt Fuji. Very country side. We would often have contact from the local city office that animals were on the loose, bears, monkeys, cows losing the plot breaking through hedges, you name it !

私は静岡の富士山の麓で育ちました。 幼い頃はとても田舎だったんです。 役場から、熊や猿、農場から逃げてしまった牛などの警報をうけることがあったほどです。

 

When did you come to Tokyo ? ／いつ東京へ来たのですか？
For university at Waseda. Both of my parents are High school teachers / very big on education. Was a big culture shock coming from the rice fields of Shizuoka

大学に進学するためです。 両親は高校の教師で、教育熱心でした。 田んぼが沢山ある静岡の田舎から早稲田大学で勉強するために上京して、とてつもないカルチャーショックを受けました。

 

First Job and breaking into your current Industry?／最初の仕事は何ですか？また現在の業界への参入は？
I worked in the insurance industry as a Systems Engineer and then was lucky to move to a US firm to start in Trading Systems which led to my current roles in Trading for the US Investment banks.

保険業界でシステムエンジニアとして働き、その後、幸運にも米国企業に転職してトレーディングシステムに携わる仕事を始め、現在の米国投資銀行でのトレーディング業務につながりました。

 

Experience overseas ? ／海外での経験は？
I went to Australia in 3rd Year in University. Travelled the whole country by car basically. Remember we were in Cairns and got an old car of some other travelers (think they were German) for free ! Was shocking to see how desolate the place was and these funny / scary signs like ~ 400kms to the next McDonalds!

大学3年の時にオーストラリアへ行きました。 そこで車を運転して国内を旅しました。ケアンズで、他の旅行者(ドイツ人だったと思う)の古い車をただでもらったのを覚えていますよ。 町から離れると何もなくて、次のマクドナルドまで 400km!」みたいな看板があったりして、すごくショックでした。

 

Tell us about your current project in Okinawa ? ／沖縄で現在行っているプロジェクトについて教えてください。
【Project ： SUMU VILLA】
I travelled a lot when I was young. My first trip overseas was with my Dad to the Soviet Union, yes, the Soviet Union ! Again, he was a teacher and said we could choose any place, so I chose there. But it was travelling to 50 plus countries, staying in hostels etc. that got me interested in Accommodation business.
I started with renting some locations in Okinawa and then running them as AirBnB locations, but then regulations changed and I decided to build.

My villa is in Nago City which I chose for its resort living atmosphere. I originally got connected to some facebook groups and they gave me a lot of advice and subsequently have got to know a lot of people in the area. Now the villa is managed by local management company.

私は若い頃、よく旅行をしていました。 初めて父と行った海外旅行はソビエト連邦でした。 父は教師で、私が行ってみたい国でよいと 言ってくれたので、ソ連選びました。 後悔してません。しかし、50カ国以上を旅し、ホステルなどに滞在したことが、アコモデーションに興味を持つきっかけとなりました。
最初は沖縄のいくつかの場所を借りて、AirBnB として運営を試みましたが、民泊の規制が変わったので、自分で家を建てることにしたんです。
ヴィラを建てた名護市は、リゾート気分を味わえる場所として選びました。 もともと facebook の民泊関連グループとつながっていて、いろいろとアドバイスをもらい、その後、沖縄の方々と知り合うことができました。現在ヴィラの運営は地元業者の方に行っていただいてます。

Any Groups in Nago or Okinawa that you think would benefit from support from Blue Compas ? ／名護や沖縄で、ブルーコンパスからのサポートが必要と思われるグループがあれば教えてください。
SUMU VILLA is located in suburb of Okinawa’s Nago city, and closer to city center there is a support facility called Atelier Mirai(“Mirai” means Future). The owner Azuma san grows chemical free vegetables and helps disabled people work and be financially independent by engaging them with agriculture. Their harvested vegetables are popular and sold in local farmers markets.
For Christmas this year BlueCompass plans to send small gifts and deliver Christmas lunch to people in the facility. We are collecting donations to fund this plan.

今回掲載したスムヴィラのある沖縄県名護市には、無農薬野菜を栽培する東邦治さんが運営する福祉施設「アトリエみらい」があります。農業を中心として障がい者のための就労支援を行うなど、相談支援を通して福祉社会づくりを目指しています。収穫した野菜は地元や沖縄県内のスーパー等に卸しており高評価をいただいています。Blue Compassは、アトリエみらいで就労に励む皆様にクリスマスランチとささやかなギフトを送る計画をしております。
